While these lyrics sound very similar to those in Jay-Z’s “D.O.A. (Death of Auto-Tune)”, it’s actually unrelated. Nas was in the project hallways, writing his rhymes.

And yes, “oratorials” isn’t a word, we’re well aware. (But neither is real'a, so chill out.) Oratorial is an adjective derived from orator and oratorical.

“Broader than Broadway” is also used in the Beastie Boys song, “Hello Brooklyn”

During the Presidential Election of 2008, CNN debuted its “hologram correspondence,” where correspondent Wolf Blitzer had a conversation with a “hologram” of Jessica Yellin, who was in Chicago.

It turned out to be about as exciting as watching a toaster do its damn thing. It was more like a scene from the Matrix than a true hologram. Yellin explained:

There are thirty-five high-definition cameras … in a ring around me, I’m in the center, and they shoot my body in different angles and I’m told that transmits what looks like an entire body image back to New York.

As mentioned on the Beastie Boys Boards, this line is believed to be a subtle dis to Will.i.am, who was thrilled by the opportunity to appear as a hologram.

This line is often misheard as “all these crap rappers”, but Ad-Rock confirmed in an interview that the line is, indeed, crab rappers.

To be a “crab” anything means to hide whenever trouble is around; interestingly, Nas was one of the first rappers to popularize the word.

Basically, Ad-Rock eats all these crab rappers like a seafood buffet, so he needs some extra tartar sauce.

Paying homage to one of Nas' most famous lines, MCA’s afraid to sleep because death might come for him, so he just rocks the mic all night long. It was also the title of a track on the B-Boys' instrumental, The Mix-Up. The lyric cast an ominous shadow in light of MCA’s cancer diagnosis and subsequent passing on 5/4/12…
