In return for the curse/ability to navigate life without a moral compass, the Game’s followers act on his behalf, worshipping and dying for him.
Rather than making sacrifices to make the world a better place, these martyrs thrive on the game’s “darkness” (materialistic rewards such as money, power and sex). Instead of dying for a good cause (making the world a better place), they are dying, not having contributed anything positive and as such, have become martyrs to evil.
Historically, those who have become successful via avenues that are considered immoral are said to have, “sold their souls to the devil.” These lyrics affirm that, when one succumbs to evil, that person is willing to die for the hedonism of his/her life.
A large number of corporations which make an annual salary in the hundreds of millions or billions have dabbled in the world of corruption. This is why the people involved are said to have sold their souls, because in order to achieve such a stupendous amount of materialistic power, they must be dishonest in their dealings.
Also a reference to the novel Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad. The story is about a European man’s travels through the Congo in the late 19th century, a time that European imperialists were brutalizing the natives and stealing their natural resources (hence, “the rape of Africa,” later on in the track).
