Heaven and Hell has often been interpreted as 2 sides of the same coin (Earth). While there are parts of the planet that are thought of as “hell” and some thought of as “heaven” or paradise, we see that one can not exist without the other because there always has to be something to compare it to.
i think that this line actually talk about how if you put your faith into either heaven or hell it doesn’t make a difference. its the same in a way (this is a stretch).
My personal interpretation of this line was that when you love someone, and you are actually happy in the relationship it can be as if heaven is you’re beloved. But like he says in the first line of this verse he talks about heartbreak, as in Daniel could be in “heaven” while in the relationship, but when everything goes south, it can be hell because of the turmoil, chaos, depression, and even the madness of an ending relationship.

Going with the theme of fading faith, for Daniel, I think that this lyric means believing in Heaven is hell for him.

I really like this interpretation of the lyric. But I think he meant something different here. Like much of his music, this song is about his struggle with the religion he grew up with and how he is losing it.
In this case he is saying that Heaven and Hell are essentially the same because he now believes they are both fictional and not real.
