Ciara: The Evolution is the second studio album by American recording artist Ciara, released on December 5, 2006, by LaFace Records. The album is separated into five sections, with each showcasing a different side of Ciara’s artistry. The first features crunk and uptempo records, which mainly deal with feminine independence, while its successor, entitled The Evolution of Music features ballads dealing with the positives and struggles of love. The Evolution of Dance features dance tracks, The Evolution of Fashion deals with self-expression, while the last, entitled The Evolution of C, features tracks that discuss how Ciara has evolved as a person since the start of her career.

Throughout the album, there are several interludes that all start with “The Evolution.” Each interlude deals with different things, such as fashion and dance. The songs following the interlude all relate to the interlude. The album’s opening track, “That’s Right”, is before the first interlude, and was produced Lil Jon, who is also featured on it. It is described as an “electrifying album opener.” Ciara sings with a “sexy mellow voice with Jon’s in your face type rapping.” It received positive reviews from music critics.

The song was scheduled as the fourth single, but it was cancelled for unknown reasons. A music video was released for the song in late December 2007. The second single “Like a Boy” was well received by critics. It is a female empowerment song, which discusses double standards in society and relationships.

A Note From The THEiLLUZION & Ryan Bock:

The process of “Quest” as an entity evolved as so: Lionel “Leson” Lsound wrote, composed & produced the music -which he brought to Salomon Faye. Salomon then wrote the lyrics with conceptual guidance from Lionel, who then brought the project to Ryan “Bockhaus” Bock who translated the song as a whole into a visual piece.

I’ve been working as a creative director for THEiLLUZiON for going on two years now. I specialize in fine art painting and drawing- but I double as an experimental filmmaker and animator. I prefer the older methods of stop motion and hand drawn animation- as I can easily combine elements of drawing and painting into these mediums. “Quest” was created entirely analog- everything you see is physically present under the camera and no digital effects were used to create the imagery.

Everything is simply paint- including the sections featuring the presence of Salomon- though a slightly different technique was applied. I painted each individual frame of the video for these sections- of which there are roughly 900. We decided to use the term “motion painting” in describing “Quest”- coined by German- American artist Oskar Fischinger in 1947. “Quest” was created over a two-month period this past summer in upstate New York.

Salomon and I worked as a team- I animated while he kept track of frames and took the stills to create the video. By working so closely we were able to create a piece that is hopefully more powerful and succinct than if we had worked on our respective units separately. “Quest” was the catalyst for THEiLLUZiON’s last 2 music video releases “Brooklyn NY 11233” and Enasni leber’s “Beasts in my Dreams”, which we decided to drop before “Quest”.

Salomon Faye (pronounced “Phi”) born in Paris and raised in Harlem has been making music professionally since 2008, when he was featured alongside Jazzy Bazz and Esso of Cool Connexion on the track, “I Speak Hip Hop” at the age of 15. The song became an underground smash in France, and started his passion for making music. In his own words: “culture has naturally been imbedded both consciously and subconsciously as my experiences seem to be the universe’s way of reminding me of the truths that rest inside my heart. Through my song I express these truths with you while grasping deeper understandings.” Salomon Faye, currently 19 years old is now helping run the underground Gallery / Music Venue “Apostrophe” curating events and performing often at the gallery while he is also one of the few emerging artist portraying the mind state, common philosophy and culture of a rising New York City based collective “THEillUZiON” through his personal expression. Now Salomon is working on the EP entitled “THEillUZiON” with Enasni Leber and his debut Album entitled “Book of Salomon”. After performing along side Hit-Boy of Good Music & Ryan Leslie and working on songs like “Tomorrow” with Wynter Gordon more people are gaining interested in Salomon Faye.

Da Drought is the first edition of the Da Drought series. In a 2004 interview with IGN, Wayne explained the mixtape is the scrapped version of Tha Carter:

IGN Music: What’s up with The Carter? You were initially supposed to drop the album last year. Then it got pushed back to the beginning of 2004. And finally it’s set to drop this summer. Gimme the scoop.

Lil' Wayne: What happened was there was a change in the music. And some of the artists that were on the album are no longer a part of us, so we didn’t want to put anything out with them on it because we didn’t want any legal problems in the future. So instead of puttin' it out and rushing things, I was patient enough to say ‘Let’s just start all over and I’ll wait until a later date.’

IGNM: Now did you scrap all of those early sessions?

Lil' Wayne: What I did is that I put it out as a mixtape and gave it away for free.

IGNM: Nice. So there is a version of the original floating around out there then for the hardcore fans to get a hold of.

Lil' Wayne: Yeah. It’s called Da Drought.

In taste of the golden era hip hop days, The entirety of Wild Style was separated into an A side and a B Side. Reminiscent of the old hip hop cassettes from the 1990’s. “B Side” is inspired heavily by the California Golden Era hip hop scene, primarily Northern California. Enjoy the ride as Chuuwee brings you new school G-Funk and more on this trip through the Late 90’s West Coast.

Chuuwee may be the last standing ambassador of a modern day Boom Bap style. While the Sacramento native, (real name Dionte Hunter) may hail from the west coast, his strong lyrical edge over hard-hitting drums and baselines is an east coast tradition. His adoption and refinement of this long lasting hip-hop custom has made Chuuwee and driving force in the game. What his music does, flawlessly, is breaths life into a dated format, while remaining relevant, original, and contemporary. His lines are a reverberating stand for the real essence of rap.

Chuuwees’s deal with Amalgam Digital has offered him the creative control and process that he needs to keep producing his signature sound, that is rapidly creeping out of the underground scene to a more mainstream industry platform. IAR had the chance to discuss the ins and outs of what makes Chuuwee tick and with an abundance of releases, (Sunday Afternoon, Crown Me King, and Wild Style to name a few) a massive independent following, and the anticipation of his debut album, Chuuwee is affording an old style, new found life.
