“Playas gonna Play” was a single by girls group 3LW. It’s also simplistically similar to “haters gonna hate”. Essentially, if you date a player it’s your own fault if you get your heartbroken and, through this experience, Rihanna seems to have learnt her lesson.

She doesn’t understand how, or who it was but, somehow, they’re tearing away from each other.

She then comes to the conclusion that they were just infatuated with each other and neither really wanted a serious relationship, and were only dating part-time, over the Winter, Summer, ect.

This is a play on the idiom “you could cut the tension with a knife”, as they lay on the bed awkwardly, with a deafening silence between them. There’s something wrong between the two of them that is effecting their relationship but neither will say it.

In reference to a particular scene in Snow White, in which the new Queen asks the magic mirror who the fairest of them all is and he ends up saying Snow White is better looking than her.

Rihanna twists this, asking the mirror to stop her before she goes too far and changes herself like the girls referenced earlier. However, she does wish to find true love with this guy tonight.

An obvious reference to Rih’s Pon de Replay. The actual phrase “pon de replay” basically means to put one song on repeat, J-Status uses this to tell Rihanna she’s missing a song he wants to do with her to.

They’re two-faced, the type to smile in your face and talk about you behind your back. Don’t let them throw you off your game with their deceiving ways.

This could also be a reference to Jay Z’s Can’t Knock the Hustle.

This is, of course, referring to the bridge in “New Slaves”:

Cause there’s leaders and there’s followers/But I’d rather be a dick than a swallower

While it may sound like pointless, egotistical braggadocio, Ye is actually addressing his media image and, at the same time, saying that he’s just trying to be a groundbreaking individual.
