Ed Sheeran, is part of the UK Music collective MINarmy (The Music Inspiration Network army), with artists such as Dot Rotten, Ghetts, SBTV Founder Jamal Edwards and many other rappers in the UK scene. The idea behind the group can be found in this interview at around 07:00.

Here, Dot says that if you’re in the scene and not down with the army, then he’s not going to give a shit about your music or your career, because it’d be hard to not be down with at least one low-key member of the group.

A lot of rappers have the strive to make it, and there are always going to be people who doubt you, and it’s hard as it is to push past that.

Here, Dot proclaims that due to the future success of Voices In My Head and the progress MINarmy have made over the last few years, that the world will have him as a household name in the next few years.

He is well-known in the UK but, like many UK MCs, struggles to make the crossover to America, but once this is done, you know you’ve made it.

There’s also a possible allusion to Marvell’s London to Atlanta.

It is a common ideology that the mainstream Media overtly sexualize their content in advertisements and TV shows that have a demographic of young teens and children. This is a major injustice that is questioned but receives no answers.

Lauryn also ties in another major injustice, of Inheritance Tax, where the person who receives the inheritance has to pay a levy to the bank, or, in some cases, it can tie into the estate tax that may have been left behind by a relative who has passed away, meaning that the inheritor has to also pay for this.

All in all, they steal inheritance because they cut down the lump sum your relative has left behind for you.

In a sense, this song is similar to the first track off of Isolation, Sympathy, and brings the score full-circle.

The use of hyperbole in the hook is obvious. Referring to the place she either cheated on, or broke up with, him, he labels it a ‘the scene of a crime’. This also creates the image of a typical crime scene:

He then goes on to say she has a cold heart, matching the unsympathetic eyes of Sympathy. And then questions how she could be so cold-hearted, because, when you love someone, you can be blinded by their flaws and actions.

Essentially, somebody he knows is restricting him from going on his own path to fame and glory. For anybody who is young and writes/sings/paints, this should be a familiar saying of your friends, who don’t understand what you need to do to make it in your career.

I/O is just making it clear that he is tired of this person saying this and that, sooner or later, he will take his opportunity and leave, because he feels as if it’s the right thing to do for him.

He’s grateful that they had what I’d suppose was a healthy relationship, but he’s still recovering from the fact that they’re broken up and/or haven’t remained close.

He seems to take his mask off at this point and admit that he is slightly sad that they aren’t good friends (a typical cliche of a break up being “let’s just be friends”, which is practically impossible if you have anything less then an amicable break-up).

He seems to hit the ‘coming down’ stage of nostalgia at this point, which leaves him feeling a bit blue because he realizes that what they once had will never be again.

He is reliving the past memories with this girl that have just been brought back on a wave of nostalgia solely from seeing this girl.

Because this song seems to have a feeling of happy nostalgia, and because he’s contemplating their whole relationship, he decides to relive these memories.

I’d imagine with a smile on his face.

I/O asks himself what did he achieve by reliving the memories of this past love, except nostalgia and possibly the reemergence of past feelings.

Standing there after seeing her, he seems to question and contemplate the ending of their relationship.

He doesn’t really like to bring this up around people and, in his life, he just might be the only person he knows who has to bite his tongue and watch what he says, in case it angers his friends or family.

In a sense, a main theme of this song is loneliness. I/O feels lonely because he doesn’t know anyone else on a personal level who is a musician or knows what they want out of life, and maybe the person vaguely mentioned in the chorus is the person who frees him from this loneliness.
