Repeated four times, along with the legendary Dilla scratching, “Is death real?” over the beginning of the track.
Here, it means that after all of this is completed, you’re gonna miss and/or need this person back someday. Is this person Dilla?
Is death real? He’s asking himself. One day (RIP Dilla) we’re gonna want him back (we already do) producing our tracks and continuing the evolution of Hip Hop in a positive way. Imagine Dilla producing beats for Kendrick, Em, Nas, Common, along w/ Kanye etc.
It really just sounds like “It’s that/dat real.” I feel that this album is not to be taken at face value and concerned w death/sickness/loss in a number of places. But some of y'all are squinting at it way too hard.
