The Ghost Town DJs' one-hit wonder, “My Boo,” is about a girl fantasizing about a guy. The song is the only record Ghost Town DJ’s ever released.

The song peaked at #31 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1996. 20 years later, it had a resurgence, and rose to #27 due to the #runningmanchallenge.

The Running Man dance was originally posted on Instagram by New Jersey high school students Kevin Vincent and Jeremiah Hall. Shortly after their post, Maryland Terrapins' college basketball team issued the #runningmanchallenge. It has become a viral sensation in 2016, as more college athletes, and even pros attempt to exhibit their shuffling skills.

Vincent and Hall explained how the dance came about on The Ellen Show.

This last couplet ties the verse together. The majority of the verse is aimed at N.W.A member MC Ren, also known as “The Villain.”

Cube tried to explain his views about the N.W.A./Ruthless Records payment situation but Ren and the rest of the crew ignored his advice.

“Old Yeller” is a classic 1950’s novel and film, told by Fred Gipson, and Walt Disney respectively. A dog in a Texas Farm house eventually contracts rabies and has to be put down. Mac draws parallels between putting down his female counterparts (a bitch) and a female dog being killed (a bitch).

Mac’s flow (Yeller/Stellar) is so good it’s “stellar.” This can mean “brilliant,” but also describes something “consisting of stars.” This means Mac’s delivery is reminiscent of something inhuman, and indicates his listeners will be elevated into an outer-body experience.

Started annotating because the “explanations” as they were called back in 2012 were wack and I wanted to fix them.

Fast forward to 2015 and I still do it for that reason, BUT I also do it for two other reasons:

  • I learn from annotating: If there’s a reference in a song I don’t understand, I have to research it. To make a connection with the song, artist, and reference – you have to UNDERSTAND WHY, and most of the time that requires an understanding of the thing.

  • I like curating: These days you don’t see me creating as many ‘tates as I used to because I’d rather edit them into a final product. This also gives everyone else a go ;)

“Swerve” was made popular by G.O.O.D Music in 2012 with their hit “Mercy.” The term has since entered Big Sean’s vocabulary on a permanent basis.

In context, P-Dice wants this girl to leave with him to smoke weed and have sex in his car. “Pluck” is a term used to describe removing ash from a joint or blunt. Smoke is one of the hardest odors to get rid of in general, but it’s especially difficult to get it out of leather. Removing the smell is pretty labor intensive, so ashing a joint out a window is actually a pretty good technique.
