Kanye’s no stranger to turning up the heat in order to get his point across. From 2005’s “George Bush doesn’t care about black people” to 2009’s Taylor Swift’s VMA acceptance speech, and 2013’s Yeezus tour, Ye’s been known to aggressively pursue the truth, no matter the personal toll:

The Gemini that I am, it is my responsibility to turn up and tell you the truth. And if I get in so much trouble for telling you the truth, and if I, if I get in so much trouble for telling you the truth, then the rest of the time, the rest of the time, what the fuck were they telling you? If I get in so much trouble for telling you the truth, then the rest of the time, what the FUCK were they telling you?!?

West coined the term “Ye button” in a 2015 interview with Zane Lowe. Responding to a question about being liked in the media, Kanye told Zane:

“at any moment, I can hit that ‘Ye button, and we can go right back to day one.”

He also rapped similar lyrics on Pablo’s “Father Stretch My Hands Part 1” and in a speech at the late Phife Dawg’s funeral:

I might say something wrong as always, but I thought it’d be more wrong not to say nothing.

Yeezy is the self proclaimed “Louis Vuitton Don.” In 2009, he released a limited collection with French house Louis Vuitton. The collection consisted of three silhouettes, each named after close members of Ye’s crew: Ibn Jasper, Don C. and Mr. Hudson and cost up to $1,140 USD.

When Kanye puts his Louis on, things get serious.

While Kanye is copping some fresh new Gucci like he would have earlier in his career, Gucci Mane is fresh out da feds and bout to flex and lace up in Kanye’s Yeezy Boost sneakers.

Gucci Mane was released from prison on May 26th 2016 after spending two years behind bars for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Many credit Gucci with spawning the new Atlanta wave of trap music, including artists who are featured on this track. Now he’s back, Gucci plans on taking back his crown.

Possibly in response to this line, Gucci was accused of being a clone, forcing the man himself to respond.

Sadly, Australian culture (especially among whites) includes casually sexist/racist terms like the ones used in this article. Saying “hey guys” is on the milder end of the spectrum compared to what I’m used to hearing in offices/bars back home.

“Children of a Lesser God” is a famous 1986 movie about a school for the deaf. The actress Marlee Matlin, who is hearing impaired, won an Oscar for her role. The title of the movie references a Tennyson poem “Idylls of the King.”

Melanin is what colors the skin. The darker your skin is, the higher your melanin count. America’s continually antagonistic attitude towards black people was demonstrated in Flint, Michigan (a city with a majority black population) when the local, state, and federal government refused to properly regulate the water supply, resulting in severely contaminated water that exposed up to 12,000 children to lead poison. Pusha sent truckloads of bottled water to Flint to help out anonymously, but he implies it’s not just humility that kept his name out of it.

Putting his name on 18-wheelers—even for charitable purposes—could get tied up with evidence of drug smuggling, so he has to lay low.
