The word “success” originated in the mid 16th century from the Latin word “successus” and was used to mean “accomplishment of desired end”. Pusha T tells us that success is what you see it as, based on who you are, where you are from, what your perspective is and what you are exposed to.

Pusha grew up in Norfolk, Virginia where he was dealing drugs to get by at a young age. Half a million was only obtainable in paper money such as $20 bills due to the transactional nature of the business and in his perspective, that was success equivalent to a billion elsewhere outside of his hood.

Looking at this from a separate angle, Pusha T is almost saying that everyone is successful in their own way and that their successes should be accepted as it is. With this type of mentality an individual is able to grow further as seen by Pusha T’s personal example – drug dealer to successful hip-hop artist.

Half a mil in twenty is like a billion where I’m from – this is meant to say that where Pusha T is from originally (hood/ghetto with very low or none existant employment opportunities), earning $500,000 in twenty years (about $25,000 per year with a standard paying entry level or a low end manual labor job) would be just as unlikely and unattainable as earning $1,000,000,000 due to the fact that it is nearly impossible that someone would be able to land even a mediocre paying steady job in that given area. Basically he is saying there is zero opportunity. It’s like asking an obese guy to run 5 miles, might as well ask him to run 50 miles, the result will be the same and he’ll be passed out in 2 blocks regardless.

Would like to see “half a mil in twenties” explained more explicitly (dealers keep cash, implies a lot of small transactions go into it, so it really shows running an empire)

Also, he is technically from Norfolk but usually cites Virginia Beach

The mixture of the two drinks is deemed “Malibooyah” by Kanye which is uniquely his own spin on something that exists. The following line maybe in reference to 808; throughout the entirety of the album Kanye brings autotune into rap giving way to a variety of artists to come (Drake, J.Cole…). Kanye could be referencing how important his earlier album was to the culture “Goddam, Yeezy, how he hit ‘em with a new style.”

It’s also talking about the line before it, where MC Ren had no money and was driving a cheap car
