Kanye plans on having sex doggy style. He also makes a reference to one of his lines from “FACTS”:

Couches, couches, couches, couches, which one should I pick?
I need extra deep, I like my bitches extra thick

Peter Pettigrew is a character in the Harry Potter series. He was notable for having the ability to transform into a rat, and used this ability to pose as a friend of Potters for sometime as Ron Wesley’s pet.

Pettigrew was a coward and not a loyal friend. He ended up betraying Harry’s parents resulting in their death.

Rats are viewed as pests and are removed with pesticide. Likewise, anyone who Chano views as a pest, even if they were a former friend, can be eliminated from his life.

Chano also likens himself to Harry Potter later in “Finish Line/Drown”:

Scars on my head, I’m the boy who lived

This alliteration was originally used by Vic Mensa in “Children of the Sun”:

I’m Harry Potter, you petty Peter Pettigrew

This calls back to instructions written in the New Testament (spread the Good news) so that he can continue to draw closer to God’s side.

Although Chano released Coloring Book on Apple Music as two week exclusive, he released the project on Spotify and other platforms two weeks later so the world can hear his message.

Silicon Valley and the San Fernando Valley in California house some of the wealthiest people in the world.

Here, Jay implies that Californian forest fires are a result of atrocities that occur in Africa in the fight for materials (gold, previous stones, oil) to sell to the West.

One such example is the ruby field of Montepuez in Mozambique. According to Foreign Policy, 40% of the world’s rubies come from a mine run by Gemfields, a company that features the likes of Mila Kunis in their advertising campaigns.

In the same report, Foreign Policy documented that the Mozambique military burned down entire villages in 2014 in an attempt to force people to move away from the mine:

On Sept. 15, 2014, more than two years after Gemfields acquired rights to the concession through the joint venture with MRM, FIR operatives burned down some 300 houses in the market villages of Namucho and Ntoro, in the Namanhumbir region of Montepuez, and beat residents, according to interviews with the village chief, local residents, and artisanal miners.

Chance mentioned on twitter that this verse is one of his favorites in the song. https://twitter.com/chancetherapper/status/789592259226247168

This is an allusion to Psalm 34:3:

Glorify the lord with me; let us exalt his name together.

And Ephesians 6:17:

And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

Chance and his music will descend on the world to exalt and glorify God while protecting those who he cares about. He also addressed this on “Ultralight Beam”:

When they come for you, I will shield your name
I will field their questions, I will feel your pain

This is a reference to Ice Cube (O'Shea Jackson), of the pioneering hip-hop group N.W.A. (Niggaz Wit Attitudes).

While Kanye’s always been known to be outlandish, according to Ye, his “completely new attitude on everything” is the result of a nitrous gas-induced epiphany at the dentists:

One time I was at the dentist’s office and I was given nitrous gas and I was vibing out – I guess that’s my version of Steve Jobs and his LSD trip – when I had this first thought: What is the meaning of life? And then I thought, To give…. I came out of the gas and had a completely new attitude on everything. It’s fine to not get credit for everything; it’s almost better.

This is the Chance’s third mixtape, the follow-up to 10 Day and Acid Rap. Chance states that the only music everyone’s listening to is his own. Therefore, nobody knows other rappers' lyrics since they keep listening Coloring Book.

This could also be Chance teasing rappers like Thugger and Future, who have a reputation of not being easily understood while they’re rapping.

These lyrics may also relate to music theory and how many artists only stay on the same note—this song is in F minor. Every time Chance says this line, he is literally singing the third of the key (A♭). By doing this, Chance is saying artists lack melody by only singing the third of the scale, when there are many more options.

Jay acknowledges that in the past he placed too much emphasis on unimportant, superficial things like money, clothes, and cars.

“Phoning a friend” is a “lifeline” on popular game show “Who Wants to be a Millionaire?” In his time of need, Jay’s friend was God.

“Let my light shine” is an allusion to the classic Gospel song “This Little Light Of Mine.”

Yeezy compares himself to basketball great Kobe Bryant, claiming they’re both legends at their respective crafts.

Bryant retired a month prior to this song’s release. Kanye was in attendance for his final game in the NBA, where Kobe Bryant scored 60 points.

Notice another homage on Ye’s shirt “I feel like Kobe”—a play on his “I feel like Pablo” line on “No More Parties in L.A.”

Kobe and Kanye starred in a Nike commercial in 2012, promoting the Kobe System.

Both Kanye and Lamar Odom (a Laker with Kobe from from 2004-2011, winning championships in 2009 and 2010) are married to Kardashians, Kim and Khloe. When Lamar was in the hospital recovering and still unable to speak, Ye would come visit him and play him The Life Of Pablo. Since regaining his speech, Odom and Khloe have both said repeatedly that Kanye’s support and music helped him recover. Kanye’s TLOP event at Madison Square Garden was Lamar’s first public appearance since his accident, and he was even with Kanye when he made his entrance to the event. Kanye and Lamar also attended Kobe’s last game together.

While it’s no coincidence Future (a rapper who lost custody of their child) who is featured on the next song, Chance is most likely referring to artists losing control over their music due to money hungry corporations.
