A possible shot at Mo-G, fellow Canadian rapper and former OVO affiliate. In the weeks leading up to the songs release, Mo made numerous posts on Instagram alleging Drake and his manager Oliver El-Khatib failed to pay him after he helped write songs.

He also accused Drake of swagger jacking his “switch it up with the left like Ginobili” dance. Drake shouted Mo and his dance out on “Summer Sixteen.”

Just days after these posts were deleted, Mo posted a picture of himself on Instagram in hospital with the caption: “When you speak from the heart this is what happens…#Dirtysociety #Dirtyindustry.”

Seems OVO didn’t like what they saw and “swapped” Mo out.

It could also refer to the initial version of this song, that featured “The Throne,” aka Kanye West and Jay Z. In his Zane Lowe interview Drake explained the situation “didn’t play out” as he’d hoped, and he removed their parts on the track for the album version.

Although Drake has expressed his admiration for Kanye, he has a torturous relationship with Jay. This could be another footnote in the saga.

Drake flips “dumb” from an insult for someone who’s not educated into a braggadocio rhyme—he’s a millionaire without education.

Drizzy attended Forest Hill Collegiate Institute, and later dropped out of Vaughan Road Academy. In his mid 20s, Drake finally graduated.

Even with school history, Drake became “dumb rich.” He was ranked 3rd on 2015’s Forbes Cash Kings list.

At the time of this song’s release, Drake hadn’t yet reached #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 as a primary artist. He has featured on two #1 records—“What’s My Name” and “Work” with Rihanna. Drake’s highest charting singles are 2009’s “Best I Ever Had” and 2015’s “Hotline Bling” which peaked at #2.

White Widow is a strain of marijuana.

Described by Leafly as:

Among the most famous strains worldwide is White Widow, a balanced hybrid first bred in the Netherlands by Green House Seeds. A cross between a Brazilian sativa landrace and a resin-heavy South Indian indica, White Widow has blessed every Dutch coffee shop menu since its birth in the 1990s. Its buds are white with crystal resin, warning you of the potent effects to come. A powerful burst of euphoria and energy breaks through immediately, stimulating both conversation and creativity. White Widow’s genetics have given rise to many other legends like White Russian, White Rhino, and Blue Widow. Still, many growers prefer cultivation of the original White Widow, which flowers in about 60 days indoors.

Tegan and Sara might really like to cry, but Sara doesn’t want this relationship to end in heartbreak.

This is also a reference to “The Crying Game,” a song by gay artist Boy George that was featured on the soundtrack of 1992 film bearing the same title.

Like “Boyfriend”, The Crying Game film also explored issues of expectations and gender.
