“People = Shit” is the second track on Slipknot’s second album Iowa.

It follows on from track 1, “(515),” on which Sid (#0) Wilson shouts “People = Shit,” played backwards. While they were recording Iowa, Sid’s grandfather died and Ross Robinson decided to use Sid’s grief and anger as part of the recording process. If you listen carefully you can hear sobs interspersed with the reversed screams.

The single peaked at #2 on the UK Singles Chart, #29 on the Australian Top 40, at #14 in New Zealand and #6 in Ireland. The song has received a Silver sales status certification for sales of over 200,000 copies in the UK, and is produced by Eliot Kennedy.

In this sad, yet beautiful song, the members of Blue reaches out to a girl who has left them, asking for a second chance. A real heartbreak song.
