When you know a person well enough to be a part of his/her feelings, you get to know their warm sides

But you’ll also get to know this person’s cold sides.

Obie’s using a contrast here, between the warm (grinning, smiling) and the cold (emotionless, angry, self-absorbed) feelings.

This is the second single of A Thousand Suns (2010). “Waiting for the End” was unlike anything they’d ever released, achieving this through Mike Shinoda’s reggae-esque delivery of the songs verses along with the minimal guitar distortion. The song has since been certified Platinum.

The official music video was directed by Joe Hahn, the video was nominated for Billboard’s 2011 Top Alternative Song and the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards Best Special Effects.

Keeping with A Thousand Suns‘ theme of human fears, “Waiting for the End” appears to be Linkin Park’s take on death, and the repercussions in life from it.

He’s basically repeating these lines from Em’s first verse:

And you can love and you can hate it
But you can’t ignore it, you can’t be that ig-nor-ant

He doesn’t care what people think about him, as long as himself is happy for what he has achieved.

Maybe this is the origin of the name of 50 Cent and The Game’s monster hit released roughly 7 months later?
