John McEnroe is a famous tennis player.

This could carry a few possible meanings

  • Tennis rackets resemble what a microphone looks like, so as a rock star usually thrashes about and swings equipment on stage, Ghost commits the same act.

  • “Swinging the John McEnroe” referring to the act of shooting a gun. Rock and Roll is a genre that was quite known for its violent substance, so, like McEnroe, Ghost is not afraid to act up when the time is right.

  • “Swing the John McEnroe” could also mean to hit the blunt hard like John McEnroe hits balls hard.

Kanye used to get As and Bs in highschool but dropped out of Chicago State University to focus on his music career. His mother probably went against his decision in the beginning but he counts on making her proud by eventually going back to school–metaphorically in his college-themed albums.

His mother was also on the chair of the English Department, further proof of how he originally disappointed her.

After receiving a Hummer from her son, and seeing her son be so successful, I don’t think Kanye’s mother was too disappointed by that after all!

Kanye did eventually end up getting an honorary PhD from the Art Institute of Chicago in May 2015. So, in a way, he did go back to school to get his degree.

While “(Hey Mama) I know I act a fool” seems to be an interpolation to Kanye’s 2004 hit, “Jesus Walks,”

Well mama I know I act a fool
But I’ll be gone ‘til November, I got packs to move

Kanye actually stated on an interview with MTV;
“I did ”Hey Mama“ three years ago… I’m saving [it] for Late Registration
