The Five Heartbeats is a musical-drama from 1991 that follows the career of the R&B group The Five Heartbeats. It is loosely based on the career of several R&B artists including The Dells, The Temptations, Frankie Lymon, Sam Cooke, and others.
Big Red Davis was the corrupt owner of the first record label that The Five Heartbeats signed to. In the movie, Big Red hung The Five Heartbeats' manager, Jimmy Potter, outside of a window for wanting to talk to him outside business hours.
