I had brought my own cushion, which I purchased in exactly the type of obsessive pattern that I was hoping to eradicate via the retreat.
I spent 5+ hours seeking something authoritative on the topic of which is the better fill material for a meditation cushion, kapok fiber or buckwheat hull. Nothing was authoritative enough to ease the anxiety of the decision, so I exchanged some emails with my chosen retailer. Excerpt:
Yes, I read your FAQ, but I am still not sure whether to get Kapok vs Buckwheat: I have sat on a kapok zafu and found it quite comfortable. The only time I have sat on a buckwheat zafu it was one of those shorter ones (too short for me), so it’s hard to compare. But I have read that 90% of people buy buckwheat nowadays, and the only real reason to buy a kapok is because of tradition (akin to playing with a wooden tennis raquet). Any more advice on this?
I ended up pulling the trigger on kapok, and checked the tracking number multiple times a day until it came.
