“The pick of the litter” refers to being the best out of the whole lot, and Chris Webby certainly is. He’s delivered fantastic mixtape after mixtape, and finally an amazing EP.

He’s doing pretty well for himself, is what I’m trying to say.

Chris Webby, although usually a fun party kinda guy, frequently likes to remind us that beneath his friendly personality is a bad guy that isn’t afraid to royally fuck your shit up.

He also won’t stop doing this until he gets the money he feels like he deserves.

Apparently though, his networth is two million dollars.

Not bad for an unsigned, independent artist.

A popular saying in society is “There’s a line you just don’t cross”, and something that has been made infamous by movies is cutting off a certain area by drawing a line (The most recent one I can think of is in Madagascar, when Alex cuts Marty out of the group due to an argument over how to best get off the island).

Chris Webby, however, doesn’t care. He’s willing to cross that line and to go places where you just don’t go to make his point and to get what he deserves.

Grindin' is a popular saying in hip hop, it means to work hard for what you want. He does so much of it it leaves him exhausted.

Jimi Hendrix is a legendary icon in the genre of rock and roll. Here, he compares himself to Hendrix, saying he’s as tremendous in skill in rap as Hendrix was on the guitar. The comparison goes further as he says he’s learning how to play guitar and turning 27, which is how old Hendrix was when he died.

People criticize Psyonik’s style, but their own style is even worse.

Notice how Psyonik labeled his style as pimping. A pimp is someone who has many females under their payroll that’s making them money as well.

The other people have their style labeled as whoring. Another way of saying that they are so pathetic, they give the people whatever they want, whenever they want, in an attempt for recognition or acceptance.

Psyonik is the pimp, he’s above all that. He’s pointing out the irony of the lesser rappers saying that they are better than him.

He doesn’t give a fuck about being accepted. But he admits that it’s hard when your own record label doesn’t respect your work. R.A. talks about this on “A Star is Born”, how Jive didn’t respect him at all, treated him like a beast, made him be on the same label as many pop singers and wanted him to give them a commercial run hit.

Recoupment is a process in the music industry where a record label can claim an advance provided to an artist back from that artist. R.A.’s album didn’t sell and he can’t afford to pay back the label advance, so the label isn’t getting any money out of his record. He’d rather end up being broke and homeless.

You signed to a record label without thinking it through because you wanted it so badly. You failed to see that it probably wasn’t the best move in the end.

The industry being gold-plated means it only looks like gold but is actually worthless. This is also a reference to gold records as opposed to platinum.

Record labels only wanna sign someone that sounds like any popular rapper, because they know that they will be guaranteed to make money off of him. Ice Cube and Onyx are two very popular hip-hop acts, that were making hits and a lot of money at the time R.A. wrote this track.

He’s warning his fellow rappers that record labels only know how to profit themselves off of the rappers music and could care less about how much money the rapper gets off of it. That’s why the labels remain rich and the rappers that are signed to them will go from people who can afford clothes from Karl Kani, which is a hip-hop influenced fashion company, to broke lowlifes with rags on themselves, like R.A..
