From a torrent, powerful, forceful, rapid movement of water, to the delicate motion of droplets of water from a fountain. A contrast between how different water can flow, the water a possible metaphor for the flow of life and how it can be harsh or gentle… No matter how the water flows the narrator is still alone, drowning in the depths of solitude

From the depths of good and bad he still feels despair, imprisoned by his loneliness, neither anything good nor bad was able to change the emotions he endured

It seems fate carved out a path from the beginning of his life, ‘a most stormy life–was drawn’ shows the narrator knows he had no control over how his misfortune was created. ‘In the dawn’ signifies the passage of time and how it can be compared to a day, the dawn of life being birth and the onset of dusk being the onset of death. ‘Stormy’ may also indicate lack of control for the same way he cannot control the weather, he cannot control aspects of his life

He could not feel the same passion for the common things that he saw people generally have passion or a strong interest for. The fact he says ‘I could not bring’ may mean he did try to have the same passions or have the same interests but his attempts proved useless

Since childhood, the Speaker has felt distant from people, from a young age he has felt as if he cannot relate to the common feelings that people experience and has forever been different, unlike anybody else, an outcast

The use of hour shows the narrators comparison of life to a day, as seen in the lines

Then–in my childhood–in the dawn
Of a most stormy life–was drawn

One hour is a very short time, this could be an indication of how fast childhood ended for the narrator, possibly a reflection of Poe’s own life
