Money influences politics heavily, with the poor/less wealthy unable to have as much of a say in how the country is run when compared to the wealthy people and corporations who finance elections, campaigns, advertisements and who have a say on policies, in return for favors etc. This contributes to corruption and has to stop

It’s possible that those who acquire knowledge or know of something different, when they attempt to explain or emancipate the dwellers of the cave may be ridiculed because they’re unable to explain this to those who find comfort in their prison. Sometimes people fear knowledge because it can unbalance and destroy their comfort and previous beliefs so will attempt to maintain that comfort by putting the ‘offender’ to death for being a heretic.

Sometimes when confronted with knowledge and truth it can be so painful we avert our eyes to the things which are more comfortable even if not so true. Reality can sometimes be hard to comprehend and false beliefs can sometimes make more sense, this idea can be applied to alot of things we endure through life

Even when we are presented with the truth it can sometimes be hard to believe, especially when we’ve already developed faith in something else. Human beings sometimes set up defense mechanisms because it is more comfortable to believe something that is untrue than to confront the challenging truth.

Darkness is more often than not related to the unknown, mystery and enigma; light represents the truth that illuminates the darkness, but can also be blinding (sort of like the phrase “the truth hurts”). Being shown reality for the first time, the prisoner may not be able to recognize the objects which first cast the shadows, because the shadows were merely a projection of reality and will not represent the object in its entirety. Seeing reality for the first time would be a whole new learning process.

The only reality or truth would be the shadows, for they have seen nothing and have no knowledge of anything else. If somebody were to challenge this belief it is likely that the prisoners would not readily believe the challenger.

Interestingly, the idea behind Plato’s allegory of the cave has received some justification from contemporary theoretical physics. As reported in Nature, simulations in 2013 have lent support to the theory that the universe as we know it is a kind of holographic projection.

There have been policies introduced by the American government against the production, distribution and use of drugs since the early 20th Century however the offical introduction of the ‘War on Drugs’ was made by Richard Nixon in 1971. Since this date every US president has a stance on (and generally an opposition to) drug use. There has always been opposition to the ‘War on Drugs’ and calls for an end to it as well propositions for alternatives due to the many perceived failures of current policy, particulary with the emergence of the Crack Epidemic which occured during between the mid 80s and early 90s, with crack cocaine’s very cheap and easy method of production, its short and instant high and high likelihood of addiction it began to appear in many major cities such as Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, Detroit and so on, it was particularly prevalent in the deprived areas of these cities which were already scarred by large and increasing rates of poverty and unemployment. With these deprived areas having a population primarily of ethnic minorities like African Americans and Latinos the sale of Crack became an appealing short term solution to the poverty, neglect and economic inequality these communities had experienced at the hands of the government most largely attributed to Ronald Reagan and his administration who created schemes such as Reaganomics.

In the years between 1984 and 1994 the murder rate for black males aged between 14 to 17 doubled and the murder rate of black males between 18 to 24 increased by almost as much largely attributed to the introduction of crack.

President of The Trap House

Another major blow was the CIA’s involvement in cocaine trafficking during the Reagan Administration in the Iran-Contra Affair where CIA supported Nicaraguan anti-communist ‘Contras’ were able to ship and sell cocaine in the United States with either help from the CIA or at the very least the CIA had knowledge of their sale and the proceeds from this were used to fund a Contra rebellion.

Until the Fair Sentencing Act of 2010 the minimum sentence for possession of just 5 grams of crack was 5 years compared to 5 years being the minimum for 500 grams of powder cocaine. This is seen by some as an institutionally racist law as crack is seen more in lower income inner city areas with a population composed of ethnic minorities such as African Americans and Latinos when compared to powder cocaine seen in more middle class areas populated more so by caucasian people.

With private companies producing a prison and being financed by the government to hold prisoners its a big business, the more prisoners the more money a company makes regardless of high rates of reoffending and the fact it doesn’t act as a deterrent or rehabilitate a lot of criminals and employs the use of free labor

…I had no idea this description would be so long. DAMN!

The image of the world painted by the TV is not as it is, everything is negative, ugly. Could be referring to the images we see each time we switch on the news to see depressing negativity that changes our view on things, we stereotype and stigmatize without getting the full picture. Anything the box tells us to do we have to do it or face falling behind the rest of the world and if there’s something we don’t like we simply switch over or fast forward, even when we do this, we still can’t escape the box. Ironic, the box in front of us is what we’re trapped in, we form our own prison

Sometimes fame comes cheap and can quickly disappear until you return to who you once were or something worse, its fleeting. The programme acts as a circus, people performing simply for the enjoyment of others, also comparing the world and in particular the media to a circus, a world of chaos and hilarity which comes at a cost most likely the exploitation of the people involved and the same way your fame fleets so do your thoughts. The television has turned you into a thoughtless shell
