A heroic act of thoughtlessness, confronting your fears with no thought or real purpose behind them. Also represents the things the audience at home may do for money, fame or other trivial pleasures

The delights and distractions include a baseball game with surround sound, the sound drowning out the rest of our surroundings, it’s in high DEATH as opposed to Hi-DEFinition, the death of individuality, death of socializing, death of concious thought. Ironic that the TV has full colour mixture even though it prevents us from mixing and socializing

The distractions of the system have an intoxicating effect upon the people it serves to distract. Just like the intoxicating drugs it is being compared to perhaps the people ingesting these distractions don’t want to break free from its hold on them, they’re too comfortable, even if they are aware of the negative effect it has upon them, it scares them to think about an alternative, they want to switch off these thoughts

Heavily linked back it’s inspiration The Revolution will not be Televised from the late poet, musician, author, songwriter, activist Gil-Scott Heron who these lyrics honor. There will be no change in television, no change in the message it portrays, no change to the system it supports, no change to the corruption of the system, no members of that system held accountable to their actions against us, right now we’ve got no direct influence or control on that, we may have the potential to but right now what we do have control of is ourselves and once we realize this then we are one step closer to our inner revolution and our inner freedom…

Most of the world whether knowingly or unknowingly have a place in a or “the” system, whether that be political, economical or religious etc. This position is often likened to that of being a slave to the system

The members of the system (society) was raised by this metaphorical monster who through power, corruption and manipulation controls the masses. The one eye could be related to the watchful eye ‘Big Brother’ pays to its citizens to keep them in line and monitor them to ensure they follow the rules and structure, or to the many popular Illuminati/New World Order/Freemason conspiracy theories or possibly due to Lupe adherence to Islam it could refer to “Masih ad-Dajjal” who, according to Muslims, is the false messiah sent to lead the people of the world astray, he is identified by his having one eye

Just a sample of some of the distracting potentially mind numbing things we see on television, all given for us to think about and avoid discussing the real issues at hand or think about any escape from injustice

All these trivial things serve as distractions to the major issues affecting us and the world we live in, while we watch some “reality” TV or talk show. With wars going on smoke is choking the people of the world. People in search of peace with peace pipes are ultimately suffocated making their peace pipes useless. May also refer to the treatment of Native Americans when European settlers arrived to the Americas, in modern times, this is all forgotten

“Channel the content of some rambling nonsense deep into the annals of yo’ subconscious” – Television creates and channels images into our mind sometimes without our awareness, it shapes our view of our environment, surroundings, the world and even ourselves and a lot of the time these images can be false, negative and detrimental. Even if we change the channel we’re still being channelled the same nonsense. Money and material wealth = happiness?

The contents of television won’t change, it’s not in the interest of those powers to educate the masses and allow them to recognize their potential. Related to The Revolution Will not be Televised the first revolution needs to take place in the mind then the external revolution can begin and of course the people on the receiving end of that won’t want to televise the revolution… But it could also mean there will be no revolution
