It heavily samples the song ‘You Know You Know’ by the jazz fusion group ‘Mahavishnu Orchestra’ and contains an interpolation of 2Pac’s ‘California Love’

‘The long arm of the law’ is a well known phrase used as a way to say there is no escaping the power of the law and sooner or later you will get caught, but Lupe may be comparing the arm of the law to a backscratcher may be a play on another phrase ‘you scratch my back, I’ll scratch yours" (you do a favour me, I’ll do a favour for you) a description of police mentality… backscratchers also can’t do much, except scratch

Darkness brings to mind ideas of the unknown.
When you are born the first thing you see is darkness.
When you die the last thing you see is darkness.

Slug is making fun of himself, cause the cliché of an artist often deals with darkness, death, and sins. While mentioning the mirror, we have to think about God (a female one, cause Slug always portrays God as a female). Also, remember God’s Bathroom Floor where he is nearly dying on the floor of the bathroom floor. Here he is standing. Starring at himself (Mirror), maybe he’s dying looking back, reminiscing about his life. Maybe he’s looking at the world, as God would, through a magic mirror. Also, don’t forget the Holy Bible says God created the human after his mirrored image.

The metronome produces a repetitive beat or pulse that keeps ticking allowing a musician to maintain a steady tempo. Following the previous line it could mean STEEZ’s heart beats to the same tempo as the sad songs he listens to. Tied in to the next line his heart beat is waiting for lyrics to accompany the beat his heart is making
