Seth Rollins is trying to cut Dean Ambrose deep here.

Rollins was in a stable called “The Shield” with Ambrose and another wrestler by the name of Roman Reigns. They were a tight-knit group who said they were “hounds of justice” and took out anyone that opposed them.

Triple H convinced Seth Rollins to betray The Shield, and on a 2014 episode of Raw, he did. This affected Dean Ambrose the most, who felt like Rollins was a traitor in the worst way possible.

Rollins refers to two separate moments in which Ambrose has hidden and attacked him. Once hiding inside a present on the entrance stage and another time hiding in the trunk of a car.

It’s ironic that Seth Rollins is complaining about people running away and hiding, since that is almost 100% what his gimmick revolves around.

Chris Jericho could mean two things by this.

1) HBK is trying to rewrite history by challenging Jericho to a title match. Michaels wants to take the belt from him and change the course of history.

or

2) HBK is trying to rewrite history by “lying” and saying he revolutionized the ladder match.

While Jericho was likely just trying to be hyperbolic, he made a few factual errors with these statements.

Chris Jericho defeated Chris Beniot at the 2001 Royal Rumble for the Intercontinental Championship. Jericho won the IC again at Unforgiven 2004, defeating Christian. That makes two championships that Jericho won in a ladder match, not three.

Jericho was factually incorrect in another way, too. Before their match at No Mercy, Shawn Michaels had appeared in 5 ladder matches, winning one of them. Before the match with Shawn, Chris Jericho had appeared in 2 ladder matches, winning both. So, while Jericho had a much greater winning percentage, he had not won more than Michaels had participated in.

Chris Jericho’s heel gimmick at this time was to be as condescending as possible on the mic. Because of this, he would try to use more advanced wording than necessary in his insults, stretching sentences out. He would also continually call the fans “worms” and “sheep.” This period of his character is often described as “Suit Jericho.” Namely because he wore suits.

Shawn Michaels very likely did revolutionize the ladder match. In the first ever WWF ladder match, Michaels faced Bret Hart on WWF Wrestling Challenge for the Intercontinental Championship. Fans enjoyed the match and were pleased with the new match type.

The legacy for the ladder match wasn’t quite cemented though, until…

The next two ladder matches. Razor Ramon and Shawn Michaels faced each other for the Intercontinental Championship. These matches are widely regarded as classics by fans, and are probably primary reasons why the ladder match is still in use today. Countless memorable spots and unique uses of the ladder contribute their overall greatness.
