These opening lines echo Lesley Gore’s classic “It’s My Party”. Gore was inspired by a teenager named Judy who insisted on her right to cry. At their party, Miley and her friends will do whatever they want. Such an opening line makes clear that Miley is free from Disney and the innocent\wholesome Hannah Montana image, and she will do whatever she wants.
Miley isn’t the first to be inspired by Gore’s hit. Fabolous sampled it for “This Is My Party”,Drake references the hit in “Take Care” and Melanie Martinez also references the song in “Pity Party”.
