Fun Fact: “Lollipop” by Weezy was the first song that really sent me down the wormhole that is rap. Made me check out more of his shit, which led to Kanye, Jay, Em, etc. which made me want to check out lesser known MCs.

Plus it’s actually an awesome song and the remix baby is 12/10.

Kind of cliche, but it’s important for Pats fans to take a minute and realize how #blessed we are. Especially after a few people called for Jimmy Garoppolo to start.

Em doesn’t have a ton to rap about anymore, but he’s still really good at putting words together. I’m not sure why he thinks any of us want to hear more songs like “Die Alone”, but as Big Ghost said, this is our fault for telling him Recovery was dope.

My favorites were “Shady XV”, “Psychopath Killer”, “Vegas” (for Royce’s verse), “Detroit vs. Everybody”, and “Till It’s Gone”. Least favorite was “Die Alone”.

I think 8th grade me would have appreciated this more than college me. But I still enjoyed it because for the most part he stopped rapping about the things we were getting sick of hearing (mom/dad, Kim etc.) and just put some bars together. Royce murdered this, Yela surprised me, and Em showed that his technical skills haven’t fallen off. I hope his next solo album is closer to this than Recovery/MMLP2.

Beyoncé starts the song out with a call to action similar to “Move Your Body” from her Let’s Move! campaign. As this song also has an accompanying music video in which Beyoncé dances to her instructions in the song, it initially seems as if this was a follow-up to the original, kid-friendly video video. However, the more adult lyrical content later in the song suggests otherwise.

Kuniva heard through the grape vine that if he came face-to-face with some of his competition then they would put a bullet in him. But he just ran into these people and they didn’t do shit so he knows that it was all talk.

This line is mostly nonsensical, recited by Bey in the video as a meditative chant. But the usage of “freaky deaky” and pink bikini give it a playful, sexual vibe.

The bikini-based rhyming recalls “Itsy Bitsy Teeny Weeny Yellow Polka Dot Bikini” by Brian Hyland.
