Queen Nefertiti was one of the greatest rulers to preside over Egypt and one of the most beautiful women in history – Nefertiti means “the beautiful one has arrived.” Nefertiti’s combination of power and beauty makes her a great model for Beyoncé’s Queen Bey persona.
Beyoncé embraces the edgy, Nefertiti-like quality of her African hair rather than alter it to look like the hair of Western models. Instead, she puts it in press and blow out hair dos – at least until she dances too hard and undoes her hair.
Bey styles herself like Nefertiti for the finale of the “Sorry” video, off Lemonade.
When Beyoncé says"edges kinky" she’s referring to the texture of her hair, specifically around the edge. As she follows with “Sweatin' out my blowout, sweatin' out my presses” she means she’s going so hard, in this case dancing so much, that her pressed (flat ironed) hair is going back to it’s natural (kinky) state. Which is why she said edges kinky in the first place.
