This is a chillaxed version of “wake up and smell the coffee” (or Folger’s crystals)

Refers to an actual coffee pot smoking when its finished, and then the obvious meaning of marijuana smoke.

In a tradition stemming back to his earliest albums, Eminem is always sure to include a “drug song” for your party mixes. Even though he was sober for the recording of this, he has plenty of experiences to draw back on in order to make this song.

Em holds a noticeable pause after “A lotta people ask me”, presumably to draw our attention in. He then drops his punchline with his answer: “stupid fucking questions”.

His statement with a rainstorm in the background is a callback to the intro to the last song of the SSLP, “Still Don’t Give a Fuck”. It is later reused on the intro to Relapse’s “Underground” as well.

As for the “stupid fucking questions” Em is getting asked, most of them deal with fans wondering if he actually did the things he claimed on the last LP in real life. The Slim Shady LP was filled with stories of rape and murder, but even though he claimed killing his wife or raping the women’s swim team on a song, it is the listener’s responsibility to have the common sense of identifying those bars for what they are; shock value entertainment.

Most serial killers are able to fit into their surroundings well due to their incredible lying ability, so to the general public they are generally viewed as laid back people. But when it becomes time to kill, they absolutely lose their shit and become animals.

Also a reference to the Australian-born serial killer Christopher Wilder who was responsible for a string of murders across Florida and the southern United States during the 1980’s.

The letter W looks like an M upside down. If you literally flip the letter M, it turns the word mild into wild.

Slim uses a similar technique in one of the earlier skits on the album (“Tonya”), where he convinces a young girl that he is a good guy by giving her a lift while it is raining outside, then proceeds to duct tape her mouth shut and rape her.

By naming the “problem girl” in this situation Brenda, Em might be alluding to the 2Pac classic “Brenda’s Got a Baby”. The fact that he’s looking for a pregnant woman in the first 2 lines might indicate some relation to Pac’s Brenda.

It seems Em hated his experience at rehab. That’s what the whole theme of the album is about, how rehab didn’t do anything for him, he’s going to “relapse” either way. The Dr. West Skit to open the album makes fun of his doctors and how useless they were at fixing the addiction.

Should be noted that this is just Slim Shady speaking. Marshall Mathers the person seems to appreciate what rehab did for him, but making a “thank you note” album would be a lot less interesting.

This is onomatopoeia for the sound that a chainsaw makes. Slim has used the same ad-lib on some of his previous songs, since the chainsaw is his preferred instrument of torture.

A reference to a famous line from the fairy tale Jack and the Beanstalk

“Fee-fi-fo-fum,
I smell the blood of an Englishman”

But a placenta is the organ that connects a fetus to the uterus of a pregnant woman, so this line indicates Slim Shady is on the prowl for a preggo.

This is the thing that separates Em from other “shock value” rappers: he can actually rap. If he wasn’t such an accomplished lyricist people would just view him as the white dude who raps about killing his wife for attention. But since everyone knows he can “shit it” with the best of them, they just can’t stop listening to him since they don’t know what he’ll say next.

Eminem chooses to refer to his style as “shitting it”, even though most rappers generally call it “spitting it”. This implies that his style is out of control and half the time he just says whatever comes into his head, but it is still better than almost everyone else.

The words “shit it” here are accompanied by the sound of someone pooping, just to make the point perfectly clear.

Em uses a rather backhanded argument for gay marriage, stating that if we find Tom Green humping a dead moose to be hilarious, we can’t just turn around and treat gay marriage as disgusting. Em isn’t your typical gay rights activist, but he has made it clear he’s fine with gay marriage; he treats everyone equally awful.

The line is followed with a disgusted “EWW” in the background from the fictional gay character Ken Kaniff (from Connecticut). In this song and others when Em mentions homosexual things like “a man and another man eloping” it usually follows an ad-lib from Ken Kaniff. Ken gets his own skit on this album, and it was rated number 2 in our list of Most Explicit Sex Scenes in Rap History.
