https://soundcloud.com/rapgenius/nas-on-nasty-at-the-espys Performing this track at the ESPYs was crazy — so many great athletes, new and old, it’s the Grammies of sports! I don’t think I ever watched the ESPYs in my life, which makes me so honored to bring hip-hop there

I was trippin off doing Nasty in front of all these rich motherfuckers in their suits with their gorgeous wives.. most of these coaches and owners probably never seen a street corner in their life or heard a breakbeat

Nasty is all about breakbeats, cuts, and scratches. It has no chorus, I’m trying to bring that back, hence a lot of other songs that are out today… they came from the “Nasty” embryo

I didn’t start that style, but I’m happy to bring it back over breakbeats, New York 90s style

Doing that song at the ESPYs was genius — THANK YOU ESPYs

https://soundcloud.com/rapgenius/nas-on-excuses People come up with too many excuses for why they ain’t winning… That’s normal for young kids, but a lot of adults are dwelling too much on things that don’t help them move forward.
Even I’ve been victim of this too but I just decided it’s not productive.

I totally agree Nas! They should man up and face their own flaws. Your new album is amazing! Perhaps the best one since Illmatic!!

I loved this line nas. Its so true and no matter who I blame my problems are my own fault. I know alot who blame others rather than face it and move forward

But what about you reflects donism. From personal experience I grew up in south cali with a bunch of hood mexicans, a army general that hosted all of them, and my whole family, from granparents to third cousins, with old school beliefs raising me. We all went through our shit, but who doesn’t, but one time I had to go to a prison and talk with homies that where in there for minimum 25 to life to teach kids about there stupidity. Now I definitely thought I was the baddest out of the group of kids, but obviously we done some shit to be were we where. Yet I walked out of there with everyone, from murderers to the three strike rule, and all colors, and after just three hours of the get together they respected me like no other. Haha I walked out the don of that group of people. We get assigned to one or two people to talk to, and of coarse I got the “Red” of the group, but every single one of them wanted me to talk to hear what I had to say. The only thing I did was not even mention the word prison, I was even laughing and talking shit on the 49er’s to one of the guys. And as wack as it sounds I am white to top it off. You born with it or grow with it?

First video was talking about Big needing individuals, such as Nas, at the top with him because it is lonely at the top. Goes back to Nas' eagle, caterpillar rhyme(scroll up for the details). Nas made some “wrong” decisions which kept him from attaining the things BIG attained at that point in time — probably saved Nas' life in hindsight — and Nas felt messed up about it. Second video was a sort of continuance.

Just want to come out and say it: you were fucking robbed, man. Thank you for this beautiful album, and fuck the awards.

Knowledge is the learning of theories and practices of other persons ideas and creativity. Anyone can learn what someone taught them but visionaries, individuals able to create things not previously thought of or created, are rare; therefore, better in the eyes of Einstein, and Nas… ;)

Knowledge can haunt.

Shout out to Rap Genius for getting this. This line is referencing “Jerome’s niece” from One Love:

he talks with that softspoken Vito shit naturally. Nas is the dopest!

Love that album, I feel the king. Every time I hear Life Is Good, I just get sad because I know that the rest of rap is wack, and that’s 90% of it. Lil Wayne, Nicki Minaj, Drake, Birdman, 50 Cent are all wack ass rappers. Thats why I give KRS, Nas, and Rakim the title MC.

So many dope Salaam Remi beats man, and this is one of em. As of late he and J.U.S.T.I.C.E League have added themselves to my top five no particular order. Just super dope beats. Anybody heard the song Hip Hop with Premo and ‘Face? Such a killer track can’t wait for the verified lyrics from Escobar.
