A coffin is another name for some Xanax bars. Coffins are for the dead, but he bought a “coffin” of his own.

This line could be a double entendre and could mean he purchased xanax and he still hasn’t overdosed, also tying in with the meaning behind ZOMBiES in their name (death and reincarnation of a new consciousness), he got a coffin for his old self (meaning he’s a new person) but he didn’t really die.

Pluto is the furthest planet in our solar system. This implies that his way of thinking is far from earthly.

In Greek mythology, Pluto was a name for the ruler of the underworld. Later Pluto was conflated as Plutus, a god of wealth

The “People’s Mic”(or “human microphone”) is a method of amplification used by activists who have been denied sound permits for large meetings and events. When using the people’s mic, a speaker will say only a few words at a time and wait for the crowd closest of them to repeat the words so that those further away can hear, and so on. This creative response to state squelching of free speech gained wide spread exposure through it’s usage at the Occupy Wall street General Assembly and other Occupy movement General Assemblies or events where electrical or pneumatic mics/amps/speakers are forbidden or impractical.

This video shows the technique being used in the midst of the recent Occupation of Times Square in New York City to convey a calming, de-escalating message among protestors as police moved in to make arrests:

Likely a reference to Lupe’s tension with Atlantic records.

Likely label heads didn’t want him to take risks and try different things, like the hard ass tracks on this mixtape–they won’t make the radio and make green. But they are the tracks that Lupe needs to put out.

Alternately, Lupe’s last proper album, Lasers received a lot of negative attention from fans who felt it was overly commercial, poppy, and dumbed down, yet it may have been a necessary move in terms of carreer and fan base building

This is kind of like when people say, “isn’t that sweet?” Some older folks looking for an excuse to to actively oppose or just not support the Occupy movement may claim that while these kids mean well, they’re acting out out naiivité and shouldn’t be taken seriously. Lupe obviously disagrees. Young people frequently play crucial roles in social justice movements

“The people united will never be defeated” is phrase with a long history, having been used by countless liberation movements across the globe, dating back at least to the Chilean Unidad Popular coalition of the late 1960s/early 1970s, before the overthrow of democratically elected Salvator Allende in a US-backed military coup.

It has recently been frequently used as a chant by Occupy protesters, who Lupe supports
