This song is Foster’s rebellion against his own self-destructive behavior. He both renounces and praises his self-destructive traits, while also talking about his will to survive and his combat against the same issues.
This song deals with his lethargy, cutting, abuse, drug problems, mental instability, and mood problems.
An altogether emotional song, Foster does a wonderful job instilling his emotions in the listener, and makes an altogether beautiful musical composition.

The music video borrows elements from an episode of Star Trek, “Miri”. These include stylistic similarities as well as similarities in the plot.

The plot of the Star Trek episode involves the crew landing on a vacant planet similar to earth (It resembles an earlier form of Earth, in the context of the show), that is only populated by children. In an attempt to prolong life, the natives of the planet conducted experiments, but had instead created a deadly virus. The virus killed all adults by rapid aging and madness. In children, the virus slowed the natural aging process greatly, leaving them in a state of prepubescence for centuries. Anytime the kids hit puberty, they begin to develop the disease.

The music video involves the members of the band being captured by children. They are taken to a vacant building where they are strapped into a chair, with some sort of device attached to their head. Through some sort of process that isn’t explained, they are then turned into children.

A comparison of the children in the Star Trek episode and the “Helena Beat” music video:

A comparison of the setting of the Star Trek episode and the music video:

Mark Foster has stated the music video’s setting was inspired by Mad Max, which also takes place in a post apocalyptic universe. I believe the Star Trek parallel is still worthy of mention.

ACCEPTED COMMENT: The success of the Wu Tang Clan was carefully planned. Instead of releasing album after album together the 9 MC’s would make their debut album then release solo projects to take over the industry. So originally their success was planned out, but now others hate on their fame.
