Queen Nefertiti was an Egyptian queen back in 1300 BC, and was valued for her beauty, and her big ass crown possibly why Janelle is comparing herself to her.
Nefertiti’s headdress/crown was huge, which no doubt made it very heavy to wear on top of her head. The metaphor of the heavy physical burden of the crown represents the huge burden of responsibility that comes with being being a queen. Leadership has many consequences. “With great power comes great responsibility.” Kanye’s “Power”also comes to mind: “No one man should have all that power.”
Plus, it’s important to note that Janelle compares herself to Nefertiti while she has Erykah Badu featured in the song. Badu grew famous in the 90s for rocking a huge headdress-type wrap reminiscent of Nefertiti, and often she openly expressed her admiration for Egyptian culture and history.
