How important are the Dreadlocks? New Zealand Interview 1979 by Bob Marley

A question many ask. An excerpt from Jamaicans.com:

Rastafarians grow their hair into dreadlocks because it is a part of the Nazarite Vow. (Also their dietary rules are part of the law) All Rastafarians take this vow and claim it is commanded by the Bible (Leviticus 21:5 “They shall not make baldness upon their head, neither shall they shave off the corner of their beard nor make any cuttings in their flesh”)…

…To many Rastafarians, dreadlocks also symbolizes the mane (locks) of the lion in the Lion of Judah, which is one of titles given to all Ethiopian Kings. Emperor Haile Selassie was also very fond of lions and had them as pets around his palace. The lion is also seen as an animal that is gentle but powerful when provoked. He is the “King” of the jungle.

Excuse me while I light my spliff (spliff)
Oh, God, I got to take a lift (lift)
From reality I just can't drift (drift)
That's why I am staying with this riff (riff)
Easy Skanking by Bob Marley

Rastas believe that herb opens you to yourself, shows you the real you, and helps in an immense way to get you to meditate.

When one meditates, they’re essentially drifting away from reality. You become lost in thought.

Most people think great God will come from the sky
Take away everything, and make everybody feel high
Get Up, Stand Up by Bob Marley

Multiple layers:

  1. The generally accepted concept of Judgement Day (for those that believe in it) is that God will come down from the sky and take everyone to heaven.

  2. ‘Feel high’ is a reference to the unimaginably great feeling any given human being would acquire upon learning that they’re going to heaven.

We know when we understand
Almighty God is a living man
Get Up, Stand Up by Bob Marley

In the Christian faith, Jesus was said to have died to save the world from their sins, and because of his divine nature, came back from the dead after 3 days to ascend to heaven.

Thus, believers in Christ attribute him to being a living God instead of a human that has passed.

The Rastafari movement believes that God isn’t to be found in heaven, but rather among mankind. Haile Selassie I was revered as the returned messiah of the Bible, God incarnate, by the Rastafari movement. They praise him like Jah aka God.

So Bob is saying that God can basically be incarnated into anyone, and is probably living among us right now.

I agree that we are all made part and are the extensions of God……some have advanced further than others…But Haile Selassie warned us not to worship him, because there’s only One deity who is born on earth without change….all the rest of us are born out of a mother and father on the earthly plane, also Haile Selassie…..He’s very plain about this and in fact We love him so much because he is the true defender of Christian faith, namely the Christian Faith in his country, he defended it because Ethiopie is a deeply rooted Christian country…(he’s not using one word against other christian churches as far as I know…it’s the individuals that offended him that went wrong….he stood for his country and shew love to all mankind through the way he lived)…. Know it also means that we cannot exalt ourselves, unless God sends us an angel or special signs, like it happened before to for example the parents of Mary or Mary and other prophets or disciples…..because of all this we know that Jesus and Mary is a living thing…and yes we ought to be their tools, because we cannot give up the fight…we believe in the victory of good over evil…..Haile Selassie….I love him so much, because he is a real good shepherd to me, he saves us through teaching us who we have to worship, so he really brings us on the right track, in so many ways…the same with His wife..they ressurected churches because it’s a living God we pray to….although there’s a lot of confusion to be overcome…..that’s how I see it……please leave comment if I’m misunderstood or disagreed with.I also love Bob Marley a lot, despite some big mistakes and I don’t only mean his women, but I myself also made some stupid mistakes……I love him so, but sometimes I hate him too, not of ‘what’ he did wrong, but the consequenses it generates….but it’s difficult to describe all of this here…. Greetings& Love, Christiane

To quote Highdeas:

Couple blunts plus a bottle of red wine. Best. Mood. Ever.

Secondly, he adds honey to whatever he’s drinking, probably to make it easier to swallow.

Easy skanking to the fullest if you ask me.

"Don't worry about a thing

Singing: "Don't worry about a thing
Because every little thing is going to be all right!"
Three Little Birds by Bob Marley

In our darkest moments, Bob urges us to hold firm, as life is a cycle, and what is now bad will return to good, and what is good will return to bad.

Essentially, he’s conveying here that there are a lot of things in life that are beyond our control, and that it makes no sense to catch a headache about such things.

When does Major get more Minor? A Machiavellian Muse by CHRZA 1

A play on words, effectively using two meanings from each word to do so.

Major and Minor refers to the Musical Chords of the same name, and of course, double as adjectives for the role the female would have played in the man’s life at one time or another.

Major role — Minor role.
