Metta World Peace is from the Queensbridge Projects in New York City, the largest public housing development in North America!

Metta once told a story of witnessing someone he was playing basketball with get stabbed

Metta is not the first native to Represent and give Queensbridge a shout-out; Nas has famously repped the hood for his whole career.

Interesting that in an article seemingly focusing on RapGenius, the Times mentions two of the sites biggest contributors (SameOldShawn and the user who dropped a freestyle at Das Racist) but fails to mention that they are, in fact, Chief Editor Shawn Setaro and co-Founder/CEO Mahbod Moghadam.

RapMetrics receives only a quick mention, but their founder is mentioned by name and given the impressive (to most readers unfamiliar with intelligent hip-hop) description as a chemical-engineering student.

Moghadam’s educational accolades include time at Yale and Stanford studying law.

#F**k the New York Times and anybody that love ‘em.

The last line also plays back to Earl’s opening line, “Close your eyes for what you can’t imagine”, earlier in the song, again bringing the song full circle.

1) Literally, Frank’s character is falling off of his roof after having too many bottles of wine. He closes his eyes and prepares to feel himself crash into the ground below. Sadly his drunken foolishness ends in a tragedy.

2) Silver spoons are also often utilized to free base drugs such as heroin or Crack Rock. Drugs like these give users extremely euphoric highs that are nearly always accompanied by a nasty “crash” when the effects of the drugs wear off

The silver spoon also refers to the idiom “born with a silver spoon in your mouth,” which means you’re born into wealth and privilege.

Classic double entendre! Frank is definitely living the Sweet Life—his girl helps him bathe thrice daily!

He loves the feeling of:

  • Strong water pressure coming out of the shower head
  • The head (oral sex) that his girl performs on him in the shower

At 1:05, following the line “She wash my back three times a day,” a faint sample of actor and comedian Jimmie Walker shouting “A-dynomite!” can be heard. This was the catchphrase of Walker’s character J.J. Evans on the TV series Good Times—a clever reference to the preceding lines about “good times.”

This is actually a little closer to the definition of resourcefulness. Which IS in fact vital to survival.

Just ask Aron Ralston. After having his arm trapped under a dislodged boulder for 5 days, he amputated his own arm to escape from it. Sometimes you gotta just work with what you have… He had a knife. And no phone.

But lets examine Royce’s claim. Hip and Hop die in this track Royce… Here we find an example of a sort of self-fulfilling prophecy–by mentioning this, Royce alerts us to the symbolism and this potential meaning that mainstream listeners might not catch.

The song is also meant to convey the immense importance and inspiration Royce takes from the lyrics of Biggie and 2Pac, as Royce says in the next line. Both of them, in different ways, are still influencing rap music many years after death.

Royce disagrees with a common claim made by rappers (like Nas, who made an entire album around this concept) since the deaths of The Notorious B.I.G. and 2Pac.

Royce has said before that he believes the game ain’t dead.
