People often truly believe in what they see in movies and there seem to be more moments when life reminds us of notable scenes from films than there are moments when movies actually mirror real life.

The saying that something is “like a movie” usually refers to real life experiences that work out perfectly (or ironically) to a point where it seems to be scripted by a creative writer.

This likely refers to Spike Lee’s debut film She’s Gotta Have It

In the film, the main character is a sex-driven black woman who desires to have more than one lover, refusing to be shackled to one man and be “owned”. The story is told from many different points of view, including the lovers (one of which is played by Lee himself) which explains the contradicting viewpoints in the line.

Film directors and cinematographers often utilize various techniques to lead viewers towards forming a particular opinion about or reaction to characters and scenes. Sometimes we even end up rooting for “the bad guy” because of the positive light filmmakers decide to shed on the character.

Geo presents three examples:

  1. Doughboy refers to Ice Cube’s crack-selling, often-jailed hustler character from the movie “Boyz N the Hood” who is beloved despite his seemingly immoral actions and crimes

  2. O-Dog is a hoodlum character (like Doughboy, his hood is South Central LA) from the movie “Menace II Society”. He is a very popular rap reference. Tupac Shakur was originally a cast member for this movie, but when he was told he would be playing a different role (a Muslim character) he started causing mayhem on the set, culminating in his firing from the cast. Out of anger, Tupac attacked director Allen Hughes and was convicted of assault and battery.

  3. Bishop, interestingly enough, is a character that 2Pac actually did play, in the movie “Juice”. Another hoodlum character, Bishop famously murders one of his homies, although he is not portrayed as a bad guy, rather the cops are.

A way of referring to a beautiful girl as a “dime” which is a $10 weed bag (she’s a 10). Weed really does look beautiful in glass jars… or HD photos I dare you to put your cursor over the image.

Related, these blunts are likely rather stingy if he is getting a dime of good bud and making two blunts out of it.

Proof was a rapper/hype man/friend of Eminem that ran with the D12 crew, always surrounded by a posse of friends to back him up. So it went on the streets of Detroit when Royce and Proof’s beef culminated in a standoff with both holding each other at gun point while their respective crews stood behind them
