NAND Flash is a common type of Flash storage. It is non-volatile, meaning when not powered, it still can retain data. NAND Flash is commonly used in flash drives, memory cards, etc.

Both of these are particularly important for small devices, such as smartphones. Mobile devices' battery life depends on how much power is consumed by their components, which is why processors for phones are specifically designed to use very little power. By reducing power consumption, this type of storage could allow longer battery life. Size is obvious. Smaller storage, thinner and lighter devices.

When you save a file, your system has to ask a storage unit (typically a hard drive on a computer) to write that data to the drive. This technology could allow this to happen at 20 times the current rate of NAND flash.
