I think this song is about a new love that possibly sprung about quickly.“Innocent love, I meet someone somewhere”, it doesn’t matter who or where it’s just happening.

Which would lead me to thinking this passage is about him needing to “picture” her in his mind; he’s trying to figure out what she’s all about and clear any misconceptions he has.

The Afro-Brazilian-flavored “Brother Sport” moves from one chanted melodic nugget to the next before building to a huge swirl of psychedelic sound that encompasses rave sirens and immersive tribal drums.

As the title suggests, the song is about Noah Benjamin Lennox' brother—specifically it is meant as an encouragement.

The words “sport brother”, which are repeated as a sort of mantra, are close to being a homophone of “support (your) brother”.

The last stanza actually suggests a contrast to the first. In other words: Rock music is about more than just burning out and fading away (i.e., the public face). The picture is far grander and broader and deeper than we know. That’s why so many fall under its sway.

Band keyboardist Spencer Krug said the following in a 2008 interview with cokemachineglow:

“You Are a Runner” is more about who I am in relation to my family, my father. That song is just about, well, I’m not going to get into great detail, but my father is a certain way, and there are days when it’s obvious to me that I could turn out that way, and that’s not a way I want to be, and it has a certain effect on the people who are close to him, and then I see the people that are close to me getting affected in the same way. That’s it on a basic level, I sort of… I don’t want to get into it beyond those vague terms.

this is a dark lyric, not a happy one, hence why he spirals down, he’s talking about sinking under the surface of things to get at a truth, a hidden knowledge which he connects with by conforming himself to it, going into it, sound or music as its used here is an expression of nature’s order, which is why the song sounds so foreboding and plaintive as nature’s harsh realities are concealed by the taxidermy picture our parents have raised us (the yearlings) to believe in

A yearling is a young horse of either sex that is between one and two years old.Yearlings are comparable in development to a very early adolescent, they are not fully mature physically, and while they may be in the earliest stages of sexual maturity, they are considered too young to be breeding stock.

In this context, he’s describing them as yearlings to show that they’re just in they’re youth – unexperienced, young, wild, and free.
