The “proof” system is a way of measuring/labeling how much alcohol content is in a bottle of liquor. To get the alcohol percentage, just divide the amount of the proof by 2. For example, an 80 proof bottle of rum has 40% alcohol and a 160 proof bottle of Everclear is 80% alcohol.
