Retiarius is a gladiator class that fights with the tools of a fisherman; a weighted net, a three-pointet trident, and a dagger. He fights almost absent armor; no helmet or footwear, just an arm guard and a shoulder guard. The Retiarius wields his net to trap opponents or to ensnare weapons. The trident, which is the length of a human being, allows him to keep his distance when attacking.

Many viewed the Retiarius as the lowest of the gladiator classes. In the series, this can be seen when the other gladiators make fun of Gnaeus after Doctore commands him to put down his sword and shield and start fighting in style of the Retiarius instead; something Gnaeus clearly dislikes.

In the series, Gnaeus is the only well-known Retiarius.

Hoplomachus is a fighting style in which the gladiator is equipped with a 7-8 foot long spear, a dagger or short sword, and a small, round shield worn on the arm. The small shield offers less protection, and The Hoplomachus usually depended on an offensive strategy and constant attack. It has the advantage of wearing light equipment and being able to fight both mid-range (spear) and short-range (sword).

In the series, the Hoplomachus fighting style is used by Barca and Auctus, among others.

The Murmillo is the oldest of the gladiator classes. He is equipped to represent the Roman legion; a sword and a large shield, which require him to have strong arms and shoulders. The defensive advantage of carrying a shield allows the Murmillo to rely on endurance to tire out opponents with an offensive fighting style. The chest-level kick is one of the Murmillo gladiator’s signature moves and is often seen throughout the series.

In the series, the Murmillo fighting style is used by several gladiators, including Crixus, Agron, and Oenomaus.

Secutor is a gladiator class that originated around 50 AD. Protected by heavy armor, it carries a shield and a sword (a short sword, a gladius, or a dagger). However, in Spartacus, the Secutor is seen equipped with a heavy, single-bladed axe instead, possible due to the fact that the series is set to 73-71 AD, roughly 20 years before the Secutor was historically introduced.

Before the formation of the Wu-Tang Clan, RZA spent some time in Steubenville, Ohio, which also is the origin of Wu-Tang affiliate Killarmy.

There was also a guy who lived in Steubenville during late 80s / early 90s. He started a topic on the forum about Wu-Tang Clan rocking his city before releasing “36 Chambers”. Y'all can read it here.
