This river refers to the bridge that crosses the Rio Nazas between Torreón, Coahuila and it’s satellite city Gomez Palacio, Durango. Because this bridge goes in between two states, narcos like to use it as a place to dump bodies.

My hometown of Torreón, Mexico is the subject of a lot of my lyrics. I feel like there isn’t enough attention to the drug war and violence going on there at this moment.

I wrote this verse in the spring of 2010, and at that time I had just become confirmed into the Roman Catholic Church. I think that was probably the moment, ironically enough, that convinced me I was atheist. It wasn’t anything personal against God, but it just didn’t make any sense to me and I didn’t need faith to be strong so I left it in my past.

Just like anything else, you can’t get past it until you address the problem and then agree to work on it. Everyone needs to band together to fight racism and discrimination, but until that happens we’re still going to have the problems they cause.
