Continues the story of the jocks and girl. They will brush off the danger of taking things too far and hurting themselves (blacking out) because what they are doing makes them feel good. Robert also says “black out like a sit in” alluding to what was done by some people during the civil rights movement where they would silently go to a diner and sit until they were served or physically kicked out.

These next two lines explain the first two and, at the same time, continue the stories of “the jocks” and “the new chick”. The jocks and the new girl are figuratively going to make sure they fit in, meaning they want acceptance, but these lines also literally apply to the girl and whoever those dicks belong to…

The reason that a popular/ talented person would overdrink and ruin his or her future is the same reason that a girl would go hoe herself out…

These lines are repeated at the end of the second verse. He is saying that no matter what other people think, he is going to do what feels right to him.

The verses are written as if two different people were talking but this is the common thought that they share. They both at one point thought the world was pure but now they are realizing that it isn’t and thats hard to deal with.

People tell him about “delayed gratification” but he aint feeling that.
