MGK has committed plenty of crimes in Cleveland:

  1. Underage sex.
  2. Smokes weed.
  3. Got his first tattoo at 16* – Kells somewhat had his dad’s permission to get the tat.

He might have gotten away with all of this, but just (approximately) 20 miles away from Cleveland he was actually arrested for starting a flash mob.

Vic wrote himself into the movie for this song. Here he expresses his character’s despair while fighting the seemingly invulnerable animals terrorizing his city.

Outside of the movie, this could be interpreted evil creatures who live inside your head (AKA depressing/suicidal thoughts).

People that are ‘weird’ in the eyes of society are scared to be themselves out of fear of criticism or rejection. This girl’s insecurities have driven her so far that it not only scares her, but Kellin as well.

Kellin sees that this girl is on the edge of destruction, but still sees a glimmer of hope in her eye. He is willing to show this girl that she’s better than how she’s treating herself by loving her.

Kellin is mentally weak and vulnerable from all of the pain he’s suffered. He even self-harmed to try to cope with the extraneous amounts of suffering he’s been through, but it in fact did not work. These scars probably have less to do with self-harm, and more to symbolize the hard work he’s put in.

He attempts the impossible, and tries to prove people wrong. Learning how to breathe underwater is a task not achievable by humans due to not being able to breathe in liquid. This example is a hyperbole for the point Kellin is trying to get across. He’s willing to do anything for God and it doesn’t matter if that thing is even achievable. He’s willing to do it anyway.

Of course he could game the system a little bit –

Kellin is always 100% true to his character in his music. He takes so much pride in this that if he is ever proven guilty of falsifying lyrics he wants to be humbled, or even further – enslaved. Kellin wants to make sure that he doesn’t sin, and if he does he wants punishment for his unjust deeds.

God is the reason why he is there, and it’s easy for him to take that for granted. Notice how he specifically says that God’s the reason he has the ability to speak. Why not point out everything else that God granted? Kellin has a very powerful voice that spans across the masses. God’s voice worked similarly – just on a much larger and obviously more religious scale.

It’s fitting that he says his music won’t be misunderstood with Genius here explaining it to the masses!

Relationships are scary, but if you work at them enough they can be the greatest thing that ever happens to you.

Kellin is questioning human nature with this line. It’s pretty much ingrained in our nature to try to escape things we feel are dangerous, instead of at least trying to fight it.
