One of the primary purposes of Paul’s second letter to the Corinthians was to encourage the Corinth Church to be generous. Paul cites the Macedonia church as an example for the Corinth’s to aspire to. A church which went through times of severe poverty, yet still gave generously out of their love and passion for Christ.

The voice of reason is a phrase used to describe a person who attempts to resolve a situation with what appears to them to be a reasonable solution.

In this case the voice of reason Jin is hearing is what his old fans are saying about his choice to leave secular rap for a Christian lifestyle.

  • Jin has announced on numerous video logs via youtube that he is often questioned by past fans about his abrupt transformation for God.

It’s time that I listened – Jin has made a decision that for the rest of his life he’s going to do what God wants him to do, rather than what others want for him.

A proper definition of faith is given in this verse. The substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen – We may not physically be able to see God, because he is, in essence, a spirit. However, faith is not centered around physical/material evidence, but rather the belief that God’s word is true. Faith is a test of the soul and mind.

The fact that faith is an essential component of a healthy spiritual life often leads scholars to challenge the authenticity of Pascal’s Wager, a philosophy that was developed to highlight the benefits of living life as though God exists. The Bible says that as well as living a Holy life, it is important that we have a firm belief that God does exist.

Jin tried to cater to the world through his old rhymes by impressing his listeners through his alleged ‘hood’ reputation. He rapped about the usual guns, drugs and money – which is the mindset of many rappers today.

Jin went from a battle rapper signed to Ruff Ryders to someone who now acknowledges Jesus Christ in their rhymes. Once you get a taste of a few of Jin’s old tracks and then compare them to his new ones you’ll notice how much he’s changed and grown spiritually.

Owen exaggerates the height of the artillery with the hyperbolic description ‘towering towards Heaven’. This captures the reader’s attention and gives a powerful impression of its devastating effect on those under its shadow.

The gloomy and haunting symbolism of the personified gun dominates the poem. The key malevolent phrase ‘about to curse’ is echoed in the last line.

Owen uses alliteration frequently in the poem. ‘Great gun’ with its heavy ‘g’s has a solid and threatening tone.

Although the majority of his previous secular fanbase (who do not believe in Christ) may perceive Jin’s actions as ‘crazy’, Jin himself knew that turning to Christ was the right thing to do. It never crossed his mind that he was going crazy.
