Before Lecrae met Christ, he went through a stage of depression (as mentioned in some of his other songs) and also dealt with numerous other distractions (drugs & alcohol) that prevented him from seeing the light of Christ. However once he came to know him, God has guided him throughout his life and made his purpose of living clear – he is now high of Christ, rather than being high off drugs.

The spirit refers to the holy spirit who is Christ. The word refers to the Bible, the sacred book for Christianity. He is saying that ever since he came to know God, he realises everything in the Bible is the truth sent by God and is ‘alive’.

Sin was introduced into the world when God created the first human beings; Adam and Eve. After God strictly told Adam not to eat fruit from the tree of knowledge (where the devil lie), Adam disobeyed Him and took some fruit from the tree regardless of what God said. Alot of non-christian people refuse to listen to gospel music because they don’t think they will be able to relate to it. This is why Jin prefers to call it ‘Change your life music’ in the hope that he will catch a few more listeners this way

Jin is saying that now he has his goals clear you won’t find him under pressure anymore. He then goes on to compare this to the getting out the last drop of toothpaste from a tube, which in order to get out of the tube you must apply lots of force and pressure

Many famous people start off humble however the fame gets to their head and they ‘sell their souls to the devil’ by becoming obsessed and only caring about money and fame. This verse highlights the importance of not losing sight of your mission and always sticking to your goal. You can be rich and ‘on top of the world’ but if you have lost your soul through addiction to being successful, then you need to find something to live and stand for
