Jin was formerly a battle rapper signed to Ruff Ryders who rapped about the usual guns, drugs and money. He left Ruff Ryders in 2005 to put his career on hold. He released a song in 2008 called ‘I quit’, believed to be the last song of Jin’s career.

However in 2009, Jin became a born again Christian and explained on his youtube channel that this was not an ‘overnight’ decision but rather something that had been on his mind for a long time, along with this video log, he also released his first song as a born again Christian titled Welcome to the light club.

Jin is currently signed to Catch Adventures and his new lyrics explain how his life has changed thanks to his savior Jesus Christ. So If you’ve been a fan of the ‘old’ Jin and haven’t heard any of his new material, chances are that if you heard this song, you wouldn’t recognize who is rapping because he has changed so much along with his lyrics.

Lecrae’s gone a long way from what he used to be like. He’s saying that now he realises the value of a person lies in their heart and personality, not the clothes they wear and the car they drive (engine in the truck). He wants ‘soul rest’ meaning that he wants to be content with who he is on the inside and his relationship with God.

Smoking weed is a big waste of time. Rather than trying to develop their personality and improve life in general they just ignore their problems by ‘puffing it past’. They are temporarily freeing their mind, but when the high’s over the problems just come back

People may feel high when smoking, but ultimately the only reason they are doing it is because when they’re not smoking they feel down – due to all the problems in their lives.

At the time and for a good portion of his career, DMX was signed with Ruff Ryders Entertainment – a record label managed by Darrin Dean and Joaquin Dean founded in 1988. The label is famous for initially managing some of today’s most well known hip hop artists such as DMX himself, Ruff Ryders (Hip Hop Group led by DMX), Swizz Beatz (producer), The LOX, Jadakiss, Styles P and Jin. The label was abandoned in 2010, however it was revamped through a new brand/label known as Ruff Ryders Indy which is still currently operating. Unfortunately the labels glory days are far gone. The Ruff Ryders/DMX era ranged from 1998-2005, considered to be a ‘golden era’ were many albums released by the label are considered ‘classics’ most notably from DMX’s catalog.

The Ruff Ryders hip hop crew itself consisted of Swizz Beatz, Jadakiss, Drag-on, Styles P, Sheek Louch, DMX (Lead act) and Eve. The crew dominated charts back in their early days (1999-2005). Past Present Future is the latest Ruff Ryders album (released in late 2011) however it wasn’t very well received by critics. A new set of established artists have come to manage the crew however they have not received the same success as the old members. It is unknown whether or not there will be a new Ruff Ryders album and if DMX, Eve, Swizz Beatz, Sheek Louch, Jadakiss and Styles P will be included in it. While the old artists still occasionally rep and shout out ‘Ruff Ryders’ in songs and interviews the Ruff Ryders hip hop group has generally believed to be abandoned.
