In 2018, Jack Harlow signed to DJ Drama’s Generation Now music label. Being an artist for this label comes with perks, and one of those perks is apparently the ability to drive around nice cars owned by its multi-millionaire creator.

A heavy hitter is someone who has high acclaim and is a great asset. Relating this back to the theme of cars, Jack references the infamous Louisville attorney Darryl Isaacs, who often deals with car wrecks and goes by the nicknames “The Heavy Hitter” and “The Hammer”. Isaacs' infamy grew after airing a Super Bowl commercial in 2019.

The Rainbow has been cited by some as, “The first American ship bound for Africa to trade for captives,” as it first set sail in 1645.

The Enterprise was a ship famous for the fact that bad weather forced it into British controlled Caribbean territory in 1835. At the time, Britain had already outlawed slavery in its Caribbean territories. Consequently, Britain freed nearly all of the slaves aboard the ship.

The Katherine is a ship which sailed in the 1830’s whose manifest of captured “cargo”/slaves has been recovered and listed in full.

“Bristol” likely doesn’t refer to a specific slave ship, but rather the heavy slave trade centered around the city of Bristol in the south-west of England. Due to its position on the Avon river, it was a hub for all kinds of trade.

Pictured is an excerpt from the manifest of The Katherine:

The Molly was a slave ship that was believed to first set sail from the UK in 1758. The ship doesn’t have as much available info on it as other entries Lupe addresses throughout this verse, but an account book from the ship—seen below—has been uncovered.

“The Sloop” doesn’t refer to a specific slave ship, but rather a style of slave ships. Sloops were single-masted ships that were typically small in size and couldn’t transport as much cargo as their larger counterparts.

Give it my all, these melodies therapy
I keep it thoroughly, PIVOT the legacy
