The ghetto and the block are synonymous with one another – their relation is practically to the point of marriage. The protagonist in this verse stays in the ghetto and works on the block.

A bezel is a rim that holds the transparent covering on a clock/watch. Just like a bezel is always around a watch, the protagonist of this verse is always around the block. With the amount of drugs he’s selling, this is no surprise.

‘Toya’ was the nickname for Charles' girlfriend LaToya at the time this song was written. He even went on to write an entire track about her titled “Toya”. Although he never physically abused her, he has regrets of the emotional trauma he caused her.

This links to the next couple lines which also use the word mine, albeit a different definition of it:

Her memories of the great times she had with him are starting to leak into her “mine” (hence why they were sinking deep in) which is metaphor for her “mind”, she can’t forget about him.

Or as Jhene put it:

My mine, like that dark place you mine for precious minerals… get it? well, my mind is a dark place full of memories … like a mine… shrugs.

A reference to beef between 50 Cent and Ja Rule. Similar to the way 50 Cent hated on Ja Rule, Lupe hates your rules.

Referring to a famous picture and quote by the late Malcolm X (Malik El-Shabaaz):

We declare our right on this earth…to be a human being, to be respected as a human being, to be given the rights of a human being in this society, on this earth, in this day, which we intend to bring into existence by any means necessary.

Lupe believes in the people’s right to fight for their human rights, both individually and collectively. He has frequently expressed his dissatisfaction with ‘the system’. and wants change at the level of community, state, and world.

Lupe is comparing this girl to a good hook/chorus in music. A real good chorus, or hook, gets stuck in your head. This describes her perfectly and relates to the song title.

Lupe has become fully occupied with his thoughts, and is thinking about quitting/forfeiting music. Moreover, this phrase relates to the hook about “letting go.”

Atlantic was highly criticized by Lupe for trying to make him release an album with a mainstream sound, with the eventual goal of winning him a “shelf full of awards”. However, he wants to be his old self and would rather give up everything he has than be a dumbed-down artist.

Sat Nav is short for Satellite Navigation; a technology that literally gives you direction. Through his music, Lupe intends to show people the right direction take in life.

Playing off suicidal themes seen throughout this song, Lupe states how he currently feels as if life on Earth sucks, but knows heaven is still paradise.
