“The number one station for Hip-Hop and R&B” is the slogan of New York’s hottest hip-hop radio station at the time, Hot 97.

Hov was making reference to how Nas thought he had Hot 97 in his corner for the Summer Jam lynching spectacle. They didn’t support him, so he pulled out of the show and would eventually run to their rival station, Power 105, to air his grievances.

Nas was scheduled to be the featured performer at Hot 97’s 2002 Summer Jam 2002. The year before Jay had made their feud very public by dissing him at the 2001 incarnation. Nas ended up pulling out after his request to hang Jay in effigy onstage was denied.

Instead, Nas ran over to rival radio station Power 105 and gave a rambling, emotional interview that dissed Jay, Cam'ron, NORE, Angie Martinez and others.

While all of this was going on Jay was out of the spotlight, taking a long-planned vacation to the South of France.
