Being a leader is not for the faint of heart (and in D.C., the perils of being in the public eye are often heightened)

Notice also the “ship”/“sail” wordplay here

ACCEPTED COMMENT: He could also be referring to fear of a repeat of the “hell”-ish riots that occurred in DC after the assassination of Dr. King.

Wale’s friends turn to the street life in lieu of what seems like their only other option, getting a minimum wage job at McDonalds. Jay-Z rapped about this same dilemma on the “Get By” remix:

Picture me working McDonald’s
I’d rather pull a Mac on you
Sorry Ms. Jackson, but I’m packing

Wale here talks about the cycles of poverty, with drug dependence and hopelessness in one generation often continuing into the next. Here, he puns on the myth of crack babies – the now-discredited idea that babies born to cocaine-addicted mothers faced severe disabilities

“Forever” is the lead single from the re-vamp of Chris' sophomore album, Exclusive. The track was initially recorded for a Wrigleys Doublemint commercial, and some lyrics also echo the signature Wrigley’s catchphrase, “Double your pleasure.”

“Forever” charted successfully, claiming the #1 spot in Brazil, New Zealand and the States on Billboard’s Mainstream Top 40 chart. “Forever” also peaked at #2 on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart.

Based on an early viral video from 2009 that featured a “Forever” used as a wedding entrance, the song was featured in an episode of American sitcom The Office, during the wedding of Jim Halpert (John Krasinski) and Pam Beesly (Jenna Fischer) on October 8, 2009.

Rocky, as he likes to do, starts spitting some of that “Houston shit” – touting the virtues of purple drank, the combination of promethazine- and codeine-laced cough syrup with soda and/or pieces of Jolly Rancher candy. Purple drank was popularized by the late Houston rap pioneer DJ Screw and his clique, which he called the “Screwed Up Click”

Losing the one you love (“my honey bee”) – or even your own soul – is like watching leaves fall from the trees. They indicate that winter is on its way, a time of sadness and cold feelings, but there’s nothing you can do to stop it. In this case “winter” represents Redford’s death.

This elegiac opening owes its imagery to the well-known song “Autumn Leaves”, whose English lyrics (the song originally had a lesser-known set of French words) are by Johnny Mercer. Below, Nat King Cole’s version:
