King Tutankhamun was an ancient Egyptian pharaoh who is believed to have ruled c. 1334 – 1325 BC. He became world-famous after British archaeologist Howard Carter discovered his tomb in 1922, possibly the most-intact pharaonic tomb ever found, including over 5000 artifacts.

To keep something “under wraps” is to be silent about it; mummies, such as King Tut, are literally wrapped up with bandages.

There have been many instances of white people, white women in particular, calling the cops on black people for no good reason. They often cite “feeling threatened” or “being assaulted” as reasons for their calls, but it is quite apparent that these actions are fueled by racism, considering the black people in question being accused are not actually guilty of anything.

Perhaps the most-known case in 2020 is the Central Park birdwatching incident, where Amy Cooper called the cops on Christian Cooper, for simply being told to put her dog on a leash. She was later fired from her job. Other notable examples include “Permy Patty”, “BBQ Becky”, and “Cornerstone Caroline”, but there are countless other examples as this is a phenomenon that happens all too often.

Black people in the US are five times more likely to get arrested than white people, so there is a real fear that one of these phone calls could potentially lead to an arrest.

Due to their privileged upbringing, they’re not used to not getting what they want. They feel strongly entitled to an unnecessarily or inappropriately high degree, and will thus cause a scene if they do not get exactly what they demand. Reks calls them “Rachel Green”, but individuals who are guilty of strong reactions against trivial matters are more commonly referred to as “Karens” on the internet sphere. Real-life examples of such angry public outbursts are well-documented.

Jane Elliott is a prominent diversity educator, an anti-racist activist, and a public speaker who frequently speaks up against any form of discrimination. She is most known for her “Blue eyes/Brown eyes” exercise, first conducted in 1968 in her third-grade classroom. In the exercise, she divided all of her pupils into two groups based on their eye color. The brown-eyed kids were told they were superior to the blue-eyed kids and were given extra privileges. The two groups were treated differently, and this experience fundamentally changed their behavior. The brown-eyed kids became more arrogant and scored higher on their tests. The blue-eyed kids became more subservient and scored lower on the tests. Much of the responses to her exercise were negative, as it illustrated the harsh truth of the consequences of racial segregation. Frontline made a documentary called A Class Divided based on this exercise.

The name reference seems to suggest that Rachel Green represents someone who is under the impression that they’re speaking truth to power, or that they are somehow experiencing a form of struggle, which is of course completely meaningless in comparison to actual struggles faced by people of color and other marginalized communities. Jane Elliott, however, is someone who recognizes her own privilege, is educated about the issue of race, and genuinely uses her position to affect positive change. She firmly believes that racism is learned, and that anything that is learned, can be unlearned through proper education.

In the context of the song, “Rachel Green” is used as a blanket term to generally refer to any privileged white women.

Played by Jennifer Aniston, Rachel Green is one of the main six characters from the widely popular 1994-2004 sitcom Friends. While all the main characters in the show are relatively privileged white people, Rachel Green is especially privileged.

Often referred to as spoiled, she relied entirely on her parents' money well into adulthood, resulting in not gaining any relevant skills or life experience, as she simply comfortably coasted through life. Although it is worth mentioning that she matured and grew more independent throughout the series, she was essentially born into a position of privilege that greatly helped her pursue her interests, and there are many who are not as fortunate. She did not need to work as hard as others to get what she desired.
