It would appear Eminem sustained an Injury during- and after- the 2001 Warped Tour; in which D12 and another Detroit-based Rap group– Natas- fought backstage, as a result of which, both Natas and D12 were banned from ever playing the Warped Tour again.

I wanted to add this under what artists have said about the song, but it won’t let me.

In an interview with hnhh published August 14, 2020, Denaun Porter said this about Fight Music “Em always said – he still says – that that’s his best vocal performance ever, in his whole career. From the verse to the hook, he felt like that was his best. And I would say that’s one of my best, and one of my favorites.”

It was the attention of his haters that made his fame reach this pinnacle, and now it’s too late to take it back. The Slim Shady LP was triple platinum at the time of writing this song and has sold an additional two million since then, making it 5x platinum.

During this time, there were two school shootings; the Columbine massacre, and the Westside School shooting. This corresponds to a greater overall skepticism some have of Em’s intent. Whereas the morality brigade, with their tinfoil hats on point, rushed to vilify Em for his lyrics, these lyrics should give them pause to wonder if their focus is in the right place. There’s real violence happening.

This ties in with the sarcasm from the next verse “I invented violence”, saying he’s directly responsible for the two massacres that followed.

Eminem has notably never been a fan of ‘N Sync and considers himself the polar opposite. N'Sync represents the “ideal” celebrity model who are easily approachable and wouldn’t mind fan interaction.

Do they appear threatening?

Eminem’s capacity for understanding his fans' attention is at an end, like a car rolling on an empty tank of gas. He doesn’t care much for all the attention.

@Am22r “I’m not Mr. Friendly” probably means that he is not that gentleman who is always smiling and friendly with everyone, and it fits the rhyme scheme (“motherfickin' thing”, “not Mr. N'Sync”, “not what your friends think”, “not Mr. Friendly”)

Notice the carefully orchestrated rhyme scheme here that reaches from the previous line’s ‘nonsense’ all the way to ‘responses’. We can make out three different rhetorical devices:

(1) A homeoarcton, meaning (in this particular case) the concentrated repetition of the prefix con- (with distinct stems) in ‘constant – content – conscience’. Here, the homeoarcton underlines the word it starts with, illustrating acoustically how repetitive, monotonous and lame the criticism is.
‘Controversy’ could be seen as an (attempted) extension of this device, although con- and contr(a)- are not at all the same prefix.
(2) At the same time, ‘nonsense – conscience – responses’ constitute a paronomasia, a specific play (pun) on very similarly sounding yet etymologically and semantically differring words, i.e. on words that have otherwise nothing to do with each other.
(3) Two chiasmic (enclosed) rhymes (ABBA), the first leading to the second:
‘nonsense – constant – content – conscience’
‘conscience – gotten – rotten – responses’.

This superb combination and intertwining of stylistic devices not only makes for some epic bars that roll off the tongue, not only visualizes just how mad and fed up he is with the unfair reception and critique, but is also a masterful technical response to the critics saying he’s only all about obscenity and shock value when in reality it’s about the skills and the artform.

“Offend” implies that feelings were hurt by accident. Everything Em does is done intentionally; he meant to hurt you. If you react to it you’ll just give Em more reason to taunt you.

“The tenth” refers to the tenth floor of a building. Em would mess with you so badly you’d consider committing suicide over having to endure him.

Note the internal compound homophone of “HIM AN IMpulse” matching with “Eminem”.
